Started a decade ago as a student project, today, Pixhawk is the most widely recognised set of open standards and protocols for drone controller hardware. Pixhawk’s signature series of flight controller boards along with the PX4 stack make the most robust foundation for academic as well as commercial unmanned aerial vehicles.
For platform stabilisation and autonomous control, any Pixhawk system minimally requires a set of sensors like a GPS, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, a magnetometer, and a barometer. While any off-the-shelf Pixhawk board will have these sensors, it may be advantageous to have an external INS which can act as a reliable redundant source of same information.

Aeron Systems is pleased to announce that our micro-miniature Pollux 2 inertial navigation system is now compatible with Pixhawk and can be seamlessly integrated withPX4. Pollux 2 is a micro-miniature inertial navigation system which is qualified for MIL environmental standards. Powered by an extended Kalman filter and sensor fusion capabilities, Pollux 2 offers 2 m CEP position accuracy and 0.2 m/s velocity accuracy.
Pollux 2 is capable of delivering high end performance with low power consumption. Weighing just 80 grams, Pollux 2 is ideal for applications where weight and size are a constraint. Pollux 2 offers great position performance in short term GNSS outages and can accept externally provided speed and heading information.
Pollux’s integration with Pixhawk makes it arguably the best MEMS INS available off the shelf for unmanned aerial applications. A step-by-step integration guide is available for easy integration of Pollux and PX4. Reach out to us at sales@aeronsystems.com to know more or for technical assistance.
